Bernie Rohe, New York scarf and jewelry designer, began her life in fashion in 1975 as the top model and muse for Italian leather designer Roberto Cavalli and Liz Claiborne. She credits her sense of style to her years of working and traveling to Europe with Cavalli. She was fascinated with his truly unique mixing of patterns and colors and that got her focused on fashion and color.
In 1990 Bernie purchased some fine cut silk fabric and made her first scarves. One year later she returned from Europe with a handful of chain belts, her designs for her scarves in mind and opened her own showroom – Bernie of New York – on Seventh Avenue.
As chief designer and president of Bernie of New York, Bernie’s trademarks in scarf design are her silk piping and her exquisite taste in pattern and color combinations. Bernie of New York’s offerings include her specialty fabric silk iridescent, silk chiffon and charmeuse, shawls of brocade and taffeta, fabulous evening wraps and scarves of cut velvet.
Her jewelry line includes unique creations of Swarovski crystal, gold, silver, pearls and stones. The collection also offers sterling silver jewelry with semi-precious stones.
Bernie has appeared in Essence Magazine, Black Enterprise Magazine and on the TV Show
“B. Smith with Style”.
Recently, she started to design signature scarfs for several Universities, including Clark-Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA , Kentucky State University in Frankfort, KY and Jackson State University in Jackson, MS.
